I mean, I know that it is what my family needs from me, but still its hard. I am also incredibly blessed to have Sydney and Dean home everyday with loving hands, nana, nanny, and Lindy all shower them with love.
I started a new job 2 weeks ago and have some time on my hands throughout the day. I peruse mom blogs, get ideas of fun things to do with the twins or just gather ideas of how to be a better me (mom, daugher, and wife in no particular order).

One of my favorite memories of growing up was seeing my dad walk through the door after work with his club bag. We had a tradition - I would rush to meet him at the door, forever hopeful there was a little treat inside the bag for me. Sometimes it might be a piece of Sees candy, other days a special folder or pencil from the office supply door. It didn't matter - I loved whatever goofy new thing he brought home for me. So carrying on the tradition, I love to scour the web, go to the Spectrum or to Target to find a new "thing" to bring home to the twins to show them I missed them and thought about them during my day away from home.

Yesterday - I discovered Stride Rite was having a buy one get on half off sale - every twin's mother's dream. So off we went to get our feet measured and buy our first pair of shoes.

Brown sandals for Dean's cute feet and pretty white sandals for little Sydney's feet.

Today - I hit the jackpot at Nordstroms baby section. Irvine Spectrum baby section is the best - and definitely a spot I need to visit with my wallet in the car. But today, I shopped and found.

Sidewalk chalk with plastic holders and 2 new board books. Unlike my favorite TV shows, I try to be age appropriate in my choices. Not to skimpy that I embarrass everyone from teen stepkids to myself. Not to conserverative that my husband wonders why I am already dressing like I am 50. Aaron Chang was at the top for a handful of years - complete with coordinated rash guards and sweats perfect for the boat. But, like Gilmore Girls, its a thing of the past. I stumbled upons Coco Rave at Macys and they are a perfect find for me - conservative enough, but not too much. And even more perfect considering that I will almost always have a twin or two in hand this summer - matching coverups - to avoid any overexposure issues. I couldn't find the coverups on line - and to be honest I only looked at macys - but here are my 2 new suits for this summer. I am a firm believer or quality over quantity when it comes to bathing suits and jeans. You just feel and look better in them. Oh - one more perk about Coco Rave - they are sized including bra sizes so they fit even better - really dreamy.

Mine is the same fit - but white with light blue and candy pink strips. The quality always seems lacking and the clothes never fit the same after one washing. I end up at Target once a week buying formula for Syd and Dean. I always take a look at the clearance rack for them. It is very rare I buy clothes for them full price - I'd rather buy ahead on a good sale.

Last week, I stumbled across a darling jumper for Syd for full price $12.99. It was part of their Calypso collection. After checking out the baby pieces for Sydney, I had to go check out what they might have for me. And low and behold - the dress below which might just be perfect for Briana's graduation.

Dean - 8 months

Dean is the golden child - you couldn't ask for an easier baby.
- Dean is happy all of the time, unless he is hungry, tired, or a few other fun quirks that we'll get to in a sec
- Dean loves to give the air zerberts - out of no where he will start and laughs at himself or others when they do it.
- Dean loves his mobile - its like is Am Ex, we don't go anywhere without it.
- Dean loves his puppies - unfortunately Suki doesn't return the favor. He is dog repellent to Suk. Apparently there must have been some ear pulling, because Suki used to love him, now she runs in the other direction if he gets within reach. Moo is a little more tolerent.
- Dean is a toy hog! Nothing makes Dean more frustrated than when he has every toy in the house, except one. And Sydney has that one... He doesn't really want it, he just doesn't want her to have it.
- Dean loves to roll. And he's quick. Leave the room and come back and almost guaranteed he's in a different location. He found out yeterday that the tile floor is not a fun place to roll.
- Dean is a do-it yourselfer. He loves to feed himself his bottle. Often he will refuse it, if you try to feed him. But, lay him on his back, hand him his bottle and he's good to go.
- He is a handsome baby - frequently we get compliments to our face and behind our back about little Dean. Already a ladies man!
- Sydney is his favorite. Again - like the puppies, its not always a 2 way street. She loves him from out of reach, but he gets a little too up close and personal for her.
-Dean decided on round 2 this weekend - that rice cereal might be ok. Of course, he had to have his own spoon and pretend to be in control. But, its progress. A few week's ago as soon as it touch his mouth - he screamed out like we were killing him. He totally wasn't into it.

Sydney - 8 months

Sydney at 8 Months - is my real wild child.

This post is long overdue. Hopefully I will get to her brother soon.

Sydney at 8 months:
- is tiny and mighty
- Sydney just passed up the 1% in weight and is "thriving" her way up to the 5% level.
- Whatever she lacks in size, she makes up for vocally. She can babble all day long, when in the mood. She has not yet discovered how nice it is to use her "inside voice". She definitely prefers the neighbors across the street to also hear what she has to say.
- She has become fearful of one thing - Deanie attacks. When little Dean is near, the yelling is not far off.
- She loves to fly - in daddy's arms, getting her own air in the jumper or activity center. The bigger the better - she is on the road to following in her dare-devil dad's footsteps.
- Until yesterday she had no need for tummy time - until Dean got praised for making small gains in crawling. Not to be left behind, she lunged off my lap, tummy to the floor and wanted to push off my hand to try to crawl. Then, also for the first time of her choice, practiced rolling over by grabbing a large toy from her back and pulling herself to her tummy. Who knew competition could begin this early. Syd finally decided it was time to step it up!
- Loves her Sophie the giraffe, paci, walks, sitting in the swing looking out into the front yard.
- Dislikes personal hygiene (baths, fingernail clippings, lotion). Definitely need to change this.
- This girl is as nosey as they come. She has to be involved and know what's going on at all times. This includes being a night owl, loving to mad-dog anyone in public, twirl around in the jumper to view where the action is.

-Syd has a natural mohawk. It just seems wrong to try to tame anything about her at this point, including her hair. If you try to rub it down, it just pops right back up. It just seems to be the right bow on top of this little package.

Am I getting old

Because I went to a Charlie Brown Christmas music concert last night, featuring "smooth Jazz" grammy pianist David Benoit and la-la-love it!!! Maybe its because I have a week off from work (with twins and family!). Maybe its because the plan is to have a completed remodeled bathroom complete with a cast, iron claw-foot tub. Maybe its because I might get to snowboard. Or maybe its because I can shop mostly guilt free. Brian and I are thinking about skipping presents for each other and doing a weekend trip, just the 2 off us. The "big" kids - well they are teenagers so I need to wait for lists to come in. The twins, I am trying to be smart. I don't want endless useless toys in the house and I want to stick to a budget. I love wood toys and educational toys and nice clothes.

So here's what I'm thinking:

Something of a splurge from the usual Target clearance rack - co-ordinating, organic clothes.

<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; I hit a $70k BMW.

The Ugly: I think I have whip-lash and my car is en-route to the shop- but at least I'll have my I-touch to keep me company should I need to stay home.

Goodbye Downey...

Koi Pond Bridge

The decision was made about a month ago. We are moving. We get the keys tomorrow. I am sooo excited! I la-la-love our new house, the neighborhood, the city-lights view, the bike ride to the club, the cute shopping center to do my grocery shopping, the trees, the plants, the peacfulness of it all. I can't wait. All I need is a Vespa, WWII safety goggles and helmet so me and my guy can cruise around sans-car. Anyone who knows me, knows driving solo on a scooter is nothing short of life-threating Dangerous, that's right a capital D.

Even more exciting - borrowing no catrastrophies and my life has been prone to them of late- this will be my first time living in one place for more than 2 years for the past 14 years (and that was only 1 spot - the beloved Rose House in P-town). Today we had a birthday cake for someone in the group. We all gathered around to sing happy birthday. Well, I've always been known for my "unique" singing voice and not too ashamed about it around friends. Well without thinking about it, I just sang along with everyone else. Afterwards, while waiting for my piece of cake a random man who I've never met before came up to me and said, "well I couldn't but help but hear you singing". I didn't know how to respond but am sure I turned bright red. Next time I think I'll lip sing....

Tea Time at Bullocks Wilshire

One of the things I love so much about both of my parents is they love LA and know so much about its history and of its secrets only locals seem to know. To kick off my mom's birthday week, the two of us met up in downtown LA to go on a tour and have tea at the historic Bullocks Wilshire. I didn't know much about Bullocks Wilshire before today, but I knew my mom was VERY EXCITED that she managed to get ahold of these rare tickets. Seriously, it was amazing! The art deco was incredible and I la-la-loved hearing what it was like at it's height. It was built in 1929 to be the most luxurious department store in the world. Marble walls, neat artwork, beautiful chandeliers - it was quite impressive. The 5th floor had a women's lounge, which was like a club where women would hang out, play games, and eat. A club in a fancy-schmancy department store - how neat! We got a special and very rare treat by getting to tour the owner's apartment on the fifth floor. Who knew there were apartments in stores. It was like I stepped into a European Cathedral/Castle, with gorgeous views of LA. The other ladies in our tour were all 75 years and older and had their own stories to share about shopping at this magnificent place. I will always be a LA girl. It made me a little sad as I drove through the streets of LA seeing how much it has deteriorated over the years.

The "Cost" of a Dog

I was really hoping to post some pictures of some of our latest adventures - mainly taking the jet boat out for Suki's first trip. However, Suki is a chewer. If caught in the act, items of her affection generally are saved. But, I keep discovering the hidden cost of a puppy - destroyed personal belongings unable to escape her death grip. The latest casualty, the cord for the camera to be able to download pictures. So I sit and wait, while the replacement cord spends some time with the UPS crew and hope Suki's jaws of death leave my stuff alone.

The IE and ME

As some of you know, last year when I moved out to the IE (Inland Empire) I decided to "live in Rome" and joined a boxing gym. That in itself was high comedy. I'd waltz on in with my semi-corporate attire after work and join the UFC guys in training at the gym. Even after changing into my boxing attire (ie: yoga pants and cute top) I never looked like I fit in. I'm sure my former UFC guy who gave me lessons had a hard time not laughing at me as I learned how to throw a punch. In fact, when he broke some ribs training, he cancelled all of his other clients' lessons except for this powerhouse over here. Apparently he wasn't threatened by this 5'3" girl sans any muscle. A little embarrassing that I was the biggest weakling in the gym, but whatever I got my lessons. That was then, this is now.

Yesterday I get a phone call from Brian. He was at tennis lessons with Jake and Rebecca at the dreamy country club. He tells me that they are having an open house that night and if we joined that night, they would waive the initiation fee. So we went on down to our first "mixer". It is very apparent that 1) we are way underdressed for the event - everyone else is in cocktail attire 2) most people are already members and are just there for the free gourmet food and drinks 3) we are the youngest people there by a good 30 years. Who could resist - awesome tennis courts, beautiful golf course, empty heated pool. After seeing the crowd it all made sense why nothing ever seemed too crowded. We couldn't resist the offer and are now part of the elite of the IE. While all of our neighbors are out being tough guys on dirt bikes, throwing punches, and hanging at the tatoo and piercing parlors, we'll be kickin' it with grandma and grandpa at "The Club" . Of course our budget didn't allow for the private jet option on the membership.

The Super Suker

Meet Suki. She is just super cute but super trouble. She just graduated top of her class from Puppy School at PetCo. It's easy to be #1 when you are the only one in class. Rebecca and I adore her. Brian well.... let's just say he really loves ME (enough to let me get her).

All about Suki:

- She thinks she's a celebrity and stalks people until they pet her.

- People quickly learn, when petting her to keep a distance because she will inevitably PEE on them.
- She would chase flies and bugs all day if she could. She catches flies in mid-air and eats the - gross!

- She comes to my rescue all of the time for spiders - my hero eats them.

- She la-la-la-loves to cuddle in the morning.

- The rest of the day she want to be close but not touching.

- Suki is NOT a swimmer. She does not doggie paddle, but does slow power strokes and sinks.

- Suki is a proud owner of a doggie life jacket for kyacking and boating.

- Suki's got moves. She dances/jumps around on her back legs like crazy when I get home.

- Suki has a second home in P.V. when Brian has had enough. Thanks Mom!

Going to Utah

Brian and I are taking the kids to Utah for their spring break. Good Times!

Hoping to post the pin-the-tail poster soon - it was SWEET!

Pinata Construction

The Finished Product

Friends and Presents, what more can you want?

Pure Entertainment

Stocking Stuffers - I NEED HELP

Last Christmas, Santa brought our house brand new stockings. We've been really busy and I've taken lots of pictures, but I have been too lazy to upload them to post. I'm begging my husband to help, because I hate uploading pictures so much, I've never learned how to do it, patheic I know.

Thanks to the main photojournalist of the family, my mom, I have at least 1 photo to post.

Over Thanksgiving, the kids were lucky enough to go to Hawaii with their mom. They had a great time, those lucky kids!!!

Brian and I were lucky enough to get to go to Arizona with my parents and brother and visit my dear Aunt Laura. She and my dad's mom were very close and Aunt Laura has always been like another Grandma to me. She has led an absolutley amazing life, traveling all around the world, fashion shows in Paris, living the high life in NYC (yacht club and all), working in Hollywood at it's height (and even with the beloved Audrey). She is still living it up, dancing with her friend Vic, yoga, winning golf putting tournaments, and giving me her latest Vogue magazines - she is always a lady of style, just look how gorgeous she is below. When meeting the Donald himself (as in Trump) just a few years ago, he summed up my Aunt Laura perfectly, "They don't make them like they used to."

It was Brian's and my first time to Scottsdale. We had a great time.

Highlights:

Oregano's Pizza - so delicious, we went twice in 2 days and took 2 x-large home for the kids

Shopping at the outlets on the way. I bought 2 pairs of AG jeans for $39 each AND they came in short just for me!

Meeting Vic in person.

Having Thanksgiving dinner with my Aunt Laura and family.

Going to the USC game and watching the ASU team get severely embarassed.

Lowlights:

Trying to get Gelato Classico twice, only to have it be closed both times. Brian still has never had it!

Shopping on Black Friday. We thought about going to Fry's them went to the mall instead. My mom and Brian made out, but nothing for me.

We love the fair

For Brian's birthday, we took him to the LA Fair. Looks like I need another lesson specifically on requesting friends.

You can find us by searching for Brian&Katie DuRocher.

Sometimes the Action Finds You

Over the Labor Day weekend, we went up to Big Bear planning on getting outside being active in nature. We packed our fishing poles, hiking shoes, and kayacks. The trip became a lot more than we bargained for. We were met with the greater forces of nature. On our hike, we were interupted with a downpour of hail. "The Little One" and I bolted back to the car while the boys took it easy and strolled on back, apparently not bothered by getting pounded by the ice. Just a few hours later, we were greeted with a knock on the cabin door by a kind neighbor warning us that we might need to evacuate due to the fire we could see from our porch. The fire stayed far enough away so we didn't have to cut our weekend short. The next day we attempted kayacking. We found it strange that the local police were patroling the area on the lake close to the dam, not allowing any boat near it. Several minutes later, helicopter after helicopter started arriving to try to put out the fire. It was pretty exciting! We stayed and watched until we got rained out. A great weekend of action!

Trucking along.

Hiking by the lake.

The Coo Foo started running, then decided to hang with his dad instead.

Fire!!! That's what my husband loves to say. But he is the most patient man alive. Just imagine living with a not so patient wife who always seems to be in need of help and 3 kids to take care of and get out the door for any activity. The man is truly amazing. After months of thinking about capturing my wonderful life on camera and sharing it with my favorite people - here is my family's blog.

You will have to forgive me if the entries are infrequent - but our family motto "out living life" explains it all. I really wanted a picture of the 5 of us together, but I didn't have one on my work computer so this one of Brian and me ziplining will have to do for now. It captures the mood of our life and hopefully our blog perfectly. We look a little tore up at the end of the day, but the smiles on our faces always show we had fun (as the rednecks would say) "gettin' it done"
